Fiskarsilaisen valokuvataiteilija Taru Samolan ja tammisaarelaisen kuvataiteilija Tanja Is:n poikkitaiteellinen projekti käsittelee ihmisyyden ja sovinnaisuuden rajoja. Mitä tekoja ja haluja me sallimme itsellemme ja toisillemme? Entä millä tavoin viestimme näihin liittyvistä tunteista muille? Millä tavoin synnytämme toiseutta sekä häpeää ja vihaa itsestämme, teoistamme ja haluistamme? Minkälaisia erilaisia sosiaalisen kontrollin muotoja yhteiskunnassamme on, kuka niitä hallitsee ja kehen ne vaikuttavat? Mitä yhteistä on kirkolla, hullujen huoneella, sosiaalisella medialla ja ketodietillä?
ILMIÖ -festivaalin ajaksi Uittamolle rakennetaan Rippituoli ja Uhrialttari -installaatiot. Rippituolin sisällä osallistujat pääsevät tunnustamaan “syntinsä” keskikoon Mamyalle sekä jättämällä viestin lukittuun lippaaseen. Uhrialttarille osallistujat voivat uhrata ruokia, joista he ovat syystä tai toisesta joutuneet luopumaan tai haluaisivat luopua. Festivaalilla Uhrialttari keskittyy erityisesti ruoan ja seksuaalisuuden yhtymäkohtiin. Mikä merkitys ruualla ja sen tarjoamisella tai sen syömättä jättämisellä on ihmissuhteessa? Mitkä ruoat taas lisäävät yhteenkuuluvuutta ja viestivät seksuaalisesta halukkuudesta? ILMIÖ -festivaalilla syntyneitä uhreja ja tunnustuksia käytetään anonyymisti elävän ja kehittyvän yhteisprojektin jatkojalostusmateriaaleina. Projektille on myönnetty apurahaa Suomen Kulttuurirahastolta.
Taru Samola (s.1984 Helsingissä) on Fiskarsissa asuva valokuvataiteilija, joka käyttää analogisia ja vaihtoehtoisia vedostusmenetelmiä. Luonto, ihmisyys ja toiseuden teemat ovat toistuvia elementtejä hänen teoksissaan.
Tanja Is (s. 1984) on Tammisaaressa asuva taiteen sekatyöläinen, jonka feministisissä teoksissa toistuu mystiikka ja tuonpuoleinen. Oman taiteellisen työskentelyn lisäksi hän toimii jo kolmatta vuotta Fotocentrum Raseborgin toiminnanjohtajana.

The multidisciplinary art project created by photography artist Taru Samola from Fiskars and visual artist Tanja Is from Ekenäs is about the boundaries of humanity and conventions. What deeds and desires do we let others and ourselves experience and how do we communicate these desires to others. How do we create a sense of otherness and shame of these emotions of desire we expirence and the things we might do?What kind of social control is there in our society and who controls them and who do they affect? What similarities does the church, a sanatorium , social media and the paleo diet have?
During the ILMIÖ festival in Uittamo the two installations a confessional booth and an altar of sacrifice will be built. In the confessional, people can come and leave their sins behind by confessing them to a Mamya ( the long exposure time allows the anonymity for the person) and by leaving them into a locked box. The altar is inviting people to sacrifice foods or drinks they have a specific relation to and focuses on the overlap of food and sexuality. What effect does a shared meal or an untouched meal have on a relationship? Does certain foods strengthen a sense of togetherness and indicate romantic feelings? What role does the culture play in this and what is universal?
The material gathered from these installations will be used anonymously in the evolving project. Suomen kulttuurirahasto has supported the project.
Taru Samola (b.1984 Helsinki) is a photography artist residing in Fiskars. She focuses on analog and alternative developing methods. Nature, humanity and a sense of otherness are elements she uses in her work.
Tanja Is (b. 1984) is a visual artist from Ekenäs exploring the world of the unseen through her art. Mystics and decay are elements often seen in her work as well as sexuality in different forms. She is also the creative director for Fotocentrum Raseborg since 2015.
