Poor Butterfly
Poor Butterfly on kahden naisen kertoma tragikoominen tarina rakastettunsa paluuta odottavasta naisesta. Esitys pohjautuu väljästi Qiancomo Puccinin klassikko-oopperaan Madame Butterfly. Klovnimaiset hahmot, fyysinen komiikka, nukke- ja naamioteatteri sekä perinteisin, modernein ja kekseliäin keinoin toteutettu elävä, pääosin sävelletty musiikki kuljettavat eteenpäin tarinaa, joka jättää tilaa yllätyksille ja improvisaatiolle.
Poor Butterflyn punainen lanka takkuilee eikä siitä aina pysty löytämään päätä eikä häntää, mutta poloinen Butterfly on tuskallisen sitoutunut rakkauden kimurantteihin koukeroihin. Hän yrittää vimmaisesti löytää merkityksen sulhasensa paluun taukoamattomaan odotteluun kamppaillen rakkauden ja intohimon valtavien kysymysten äärellä.
Esitys kritisoi romanttiseen rakkauteen liittyvää ehdottomuuden vaatimusta ja piirtää rajat uhrautumisen ja todellisen rakkauden välille. Poor Butterfly kyllästyy unelmien prinssin ja valkoisen ratsun odotteluun, heittää romukoppaan stereotypiat passiivisesta naisesta, ottaa onnensa ohjat omiin käsiinsä ja karauttaa kohti horisontissa siintävää aurinkoa.

Meidän, Ainon ja Erikan, yhteinen taival alkoi koko perheen esityksistä ja on nyt viimeaikoina
keskittynyt voimakkaiden naisten kuvauksiin. Ajattelemme esitysten teosta hyvin samankaltaisesti:
monipuolinen esittävien taiteiden hallinta mahdollistaa vapaan ilmaisun. Ainon nopeatempoisuus
ja Erikan rauhallisuus tekee yhteistyöstä sopivan dynaamista. Olemme molemmat kilttejä sekä
voimakkaita ja työssämme haluamme käsitellä elämän tragedioita huumorin kautta. Mereen on
vaikeampi hukkua, jos naurun suolaiset kyyneleet kannattelevat meitä. Ja meillä niitä kyyneleitä
riittää.

Poor Butterfly
Poor Butterfly is a story about a woman waiting for her lover to return. The story is told by two clown-like actresses and has found inspiration from Qiancomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly. Live music created by traditional and inventive ways is driving the story with physical comedy, puppetry and mask theatre. There is also room for improvisation and surprises. A red thread is tangling.
Poor Butterfly is loosing her head and the end of the thread, but she is tormently committed to the twists and turns of love. She tries to find meaning for the neverending wait and struggle with the enormous questions about love and passion.
The performance is criticising the absoluteness of romantic love and draws borders between self-sacrifice and true love. Poor Butterfly is fed up with waiting the Prince Charming and his white stallion and throws the stereotypes of a passive woman to the trash bin. She takes the reins of happiness to her own hands and gallops towards the horizon.

Our, Aino’s and Erika’s, journey together began with children’s theatre and nowadays we have
been concentrating on presenting strong women. Our thoughts about making performances are
alike: versatile knowledge of different disciplines widens the spectrum of free expression. Aino’s
quick responsiveness and Erika’s calmness is a perfect match to make our co-operation dynamic.
We are both kind and strong and in our work we process tragedies through humor. It’s much
more difficult to drown if the salty tears of laughter are keeping us afloat. And we have tears
enough to build a boat.
